About Me

Seung-Yeon Oh, Born in Busan, South Korea, is an Oriental Ink Art painter known for her expressive landscape renderings.

With a major in Oriental Ink Painting, Ms. Oh graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts and a Master of Fine Arts from Sejong University in Seoul, South Korea with a teaching credential. In 1991, she furthered her study in Beijing at the Chinese Art Research Center. Since 2005, when she moved to the U.S. with her family, she had been teaching Oriental Ink Art and Korean Folk Art in various public and private education settings as well as in her private studio. From where she was instrumental in putting together for the first time a number of exhibitions of Oriental Ink Art. As a result, many people has a thirst to see this hitherto unfamiliar art form. This provided her with an opportunity to introduce the especially beautiful Oriental line art by teaching courses at a number of colleges, such as Glendale Community College (C.E.S), Pasadena City College Extension, and Horizon Institute in Los Angeles. She was an art curator for Gallery Verdugo in Glendale, California. Ms. Oh has had an award-winning career in art, having won contests in South Korea and given solo and group exhibitions in Korea and the United States.

Ms. Oh’s philosophy and approach to teaching Oriental Ink Painting to deliver student population are to provide an enriching learning environment where students learn by first observing demonstrations of her professional skills and knowledge and then developing their own skills and understanding under her insightful guidance most appropriate for each student. Her students learn about the beauty of the ancient art of Oriental Ink Painting through intricate variations of lines, shapes, and colors that are represented with pure simplicity. Ms. Oh provides a very rare opportunity to the greater Los Angeles Community to learn about and gain an appreciation for traditional Oriental art.
